In 2024 Genie forced a firmware update to their devices. This latest driver handles those changes and your door must be updated to the latest firmware to use this driver.
This is a complete engine rewrite, you must click on Authorize / Get Devices after update.
¶ Overview
This is a two-way driver to control the Genie Aladdin Connect Garage door openers with feedback
The Elan controller is capable of controlling the Aladdin Connect Garage door opener and receiving status feedback.
¶ SUPPORTED FEATURES
- This driver uses the Aladdin Connect Cloud.
- This driver supports all Garage Doors and Openers that work with Aladdin Connect
- The driver is capable of querying the Aladdin Connect cloud, retrieving device id’s and status, and installing the devices discovered.
- The driver offers Event Maps for open / close
- The driver offers feedback for up to 12 doors status
THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS are not supported:
The driver doesn’t support Bluetooth control, local control or WiFi setup
¶ Device Configuration
Configure your device and add it to the Genie App.
The driver doesn’t need the IP address of the Aladdin Connect unit. Internet access is required for the driver.
¶ Driver Configuration
- Install the Aladdin Connect as instructed by the manufacturer.
- Make sure that the Garage unit is fully operational from the Aladdin Connect App.
- A working internet connection must be on at all times. This device is controlled using Aladdin Connect cloud.
¶ Installation Process
IMPORTANT NOTE: The driver is added as a lighting driver, then it’s added in Door Controls under the Security tab. Then it’s added to each interface device as needed.
- Open Lighting, Lighting Interfaces, Add New Lighting Interface. Navigate to the folder where the driver is located and choose the Genie Device Type.
- On the warning that this is not a Native Elan driver, click OK
- The Driver will automatically go into trial mode for 7 days. Wait for about 10 seconds and the Status will turn Green. Fill in the Activation Code, Account Username and Password. Click Apply
- Set the Polling time to as high as can be tolerated and depending on usage of door.
- Click on Authorize / Get Devices. If successful, all account devices will populate under the driver
- All discovered devices will be installed automatically. Configure the options as follows:
- Do NOT change the Door ID or the Aladdin Connect ID. They are automatically populated value
- Change the Name as needed
- Before proceeding to the next step, test the operation by clicking the Off / On button. The garage door should operate.
- Open the Security Tab, Door Controls, and choose Add New Door Control. Name it and choose Type: Lighting
- Under Device, Select the name of the Aladdin Connect garage door opener used in the Lighting control.
Important Note: Experiment with Input Logic Normal / Reverse to match the status of the garage door. The words Open and Closed are Elan Defaults and cannot be changed.
By default, security devices are not added to Elan Interfaces. They must be added manually to each interface. Add the Security Tab to the desired Interface device by going to Interface, choose the Interface Device, Security Page Layout and add the garage page to it.
¶ Creating Event Maps
The driver has a built in event that is triggered once every 24 hours if the battery falls below 20%. You can create an event based on that trigger.
To create the event, go to Event Mapper, Lighting System, Genie Driver Name, Battery Level and choose the Door option.
Create one of these for every door on the system.
Use that to trigger any event.
The event will stop automatically after the battery is replaced and the reading goes above 20%
YOU ARE NOW READY TO USE THE DRIVER.
¶ Using the Driver
In the Viewer, go to Security, Garage Door and slide the control to open / close
If the Input Logic Option is Reverse, When the door is closed the bar under the Garage Door will be highlighted.
¶ Create a Custom Page
A custom page can be created to show more than one element including a video stream.
Before Creating a Custom Page for garage doors, set up the feedback variables first that connect the Text(feedback) elements to each individual door (up to 12 doors).
- In the Configurator, under lighting, go the settings page and connect each door to a feedback variable. There are 12 feedback variables that can be used. Assign each Door a unique variable number. Do NOT repeat Door Feedback Variable Numbers. If a Device is empty, the driver will ignore the variable value.
- Under the security tab, create or import custom page
Important Note: (the driver includes a custom ECV page that can be imported from the zipped file)
- Connect the Door Feedback Variable to the Genie: feedbackDoor1 – feedbackDoor12 depending on the door sequence
- Connect the Battery Life to Genie: battery1 - battery12 depending on the door sequence.
- Connect the open / close garage to the appropriate door.
- Connect any other desired elements such as video stream
- The custom page can be added to any viewer for control
¶ Troublshooting
IMPORTANT NOTE: If the driver fails to open/close any door, first check the operation of the door in the Aladdin Connect app before troubleshooting the Elan Driver.
- Driver not Activated. Wait10 seconds after Apply
- The Driver shows “Door xxxx is still Opened (Closed). Check Door/Portal.” After attempting to open / close. Check the app make sure the door responds. Check the device to make sure it’s on / connected and communicating. Restart Device. Test with App for operation.
- The Garage door opener is not responding. Check to make sure that the opener still operates from the app. Make sure there is an active internet connection.
- Driver displays Cannot Reach Gateway please wait. Disable Polling Time, wait about 15 minutes, Click Apply / Get Devices / Re-enable polling
- Status shows “Unable to verify door….” Make sure door is configured properly in the Aladdin Connect App.
- Make sure the door sensor is paired and battery has more that 25% charge at all times. Low battery will keep the door from operating.
- The door shows open while the real state is closed or vice versa after a failure. Operate the door from Elan and the door status will reset.
