This is a driver to trigger NFC tags from Elan using Innovo’s Magic Cube running Home Assistant. The tags can be programmed in the controller and used anywhere in the world. NFC is a very secure form of communication and is only triggered by an authorized device that is unlocked. It the same technology used in credit card scan systems.
You can use the built in tool called Nabucasa (Home Assistant Cloud). This is a subscription based. No proceeds go to Innovo as this is provided by a 3rd party. At the time of writing, the subscription was $6 / monthly.
To activate this server, from your Home Assistant admin page directly on the cube, go to the Settings panel in Home Assistant and create an account and log in. If you are not seeing Home Assistant Cloud within the Settings panel, contact support@innovo.net
You must have the Home Assistant app on your phone and sign into your device. If you’re not able to login locally or remotely reach out to support@innovo.net
You must have NFC tags. NFC tags are very inexpensive and easily found online. Pick the ones that suit your needs.
It is recommended that you follow the below installation process in order to ensure you are running the latest version of the driver.
Under Lighting 🡪 Lighting Devices, click on Add New Lighting Device.
Select the NFC driver.
Add the Innovo Activation Code received in the email.
Starting with Magic Cube Aura and V5 Patch 3, you no longer need to add the token. The token is added using the Magic Cube Admin Interface. See Magic Cube User Manual
Click Discover to Discover the Magic Cube’s on the network.
Click Install. This will put the driver in NFC tag discover mode for 60 minutes.
Program NFC tags as instructed in the next section.
The NFC tag must be written in order to create actions. You can always wipe the NFC tag and write it again. NFC tags don’t require battery power and can placed anywhere in the world.
Open up the Home Assistant App on your phone (this is the paired device and must be used to trigger the NFC actions)🡪Settings 🡪 Tags 🡪 + Add Tag
Click on Create and Write (on the Bottom of the screen). If you don’t this menu item, pinch on your phone to zoom in and release. That should reset the view.
Give the Tage a meaningful name. Leave the Tag ID empty. Click Done or Finished.
Then Click Create and Write on the bottom right hand of the screen.
NOTE: If you don’t this menu item, pinch on your phone to zoom in and release. That should reset the view.
You are now ready to scan the tag.
Once you see “Ready to Scan”, Hold your phone near or over the tag (different phones have different location for their NFC sensor). IPhone is on the top middle. Samsung is in the middle of the phone. Experiment to find yours.
